I was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and have lived in the United States for over 20 years. I currently hold U.S. citizenship but wish to ensure that my Colombian citizenship remains in good standing.
I have my original Registro Civil de Nacimiento (issued in 2001), my tarjeta de identidad, and an expired Colombian passport. I would like to renew my Colombian passport and, if necessary, obtain my cédula de ciudadanía for the first time as an adult.
My main doubts are:
Is my Registro Civil de Nacimiento from 2001 still valid for this process, or do I need to obtain a newer certified copy?
If there’s anything else needed from my end to continue with the cédula de ciudadanía process, please let me know.
